To help celebrate the launch of Stockpools’ cannabis investment challenge, the Canadian Securities Exchange (CSE) organized a meet and greet on Monday (May 29), with some top cannabis personalities involved with the exchange.
Of course, the Investing News Network (INN) was there and had the chance to speak with some thought leaders in the industry, as well as tune in to the presentations. If you weren’t able to make it, don’t worry—we’ve got you covered.
The event began with quick words from James Blac, VP of listings development for the CSE, who said the exchange was one of the most focused ones in cannabis listings. “We have never seen anything quite like this,” he said referring to the incredible boom of the industry for the past few years.

CSE director of listed company services Barrington Miller later took the stage to explain how the panel of experts in the cannabis industry would each take some time to explain an aspect of the market they were interested in or saw recent activity.
Miller said the CSE was proud of the way they handled their relationships with all types of cannabis-related companies, noting the exchange had close to 50 stocks related to cannabis in one way or another.
Guest speakers included Justin Meiklem from Stockhouse, who made a point of reminding investors that this industry is very new and how they can’t rely on tradition or other markets’ history. “[This industry] is not driven by fundamentals.”
Brayden Sutton, a managing partner with Sutton Ventures, provided a brief history lesson with the way the alcohol market moved forward despite its illegality during the prohibition years. He compared it to what we see today in the cannabis space, noting that nothing is for certain although he did say the industry could be looking at a 25 plus successful year run.
Sutton also explained how a lot of local companies are itching to expand internationally and are in the process of exploring options in Germany and in states like Arizona and Nevada.
Sean Gercsak, an investment advisor for Canaccord (TSX:CF), said he didn’t fully believe in the industry when it first started taking shape but said he is confident this a new phase for investment.
The presentations then lead to a meet and greet with the panelists and enthusiasts in the audience.
